I had the pleasure of chatting with Teen Psychic, Ross Bartlett this week, and believe me I was impressed. The nineteen-year-old from the south of England is the calmest, most relaxed and spiritually centered adolescent in the western world I have ever spoken to. Well, on the grill.
To get smoothly into my 2-page A4 “proof sheet”, margin removed, half-line spacing, size 8, I asked Ross about his tattoos. Well, there really is no way to escape them. Each, Ross explains, has a specific spiritual meaning. His right arm, decorated with painted stars, of different sizes and colors, denotes the connection with the spiritual world. His left dragged and swirled with leaves and vine, symbolizes the connection with the earth. On its back is a beautiful pair of angel wings, skillfully applied by the inked craftsman. Angels are, of course, messengers, which Ross says is their specific duty; to deliver messages from the Spirit World.
Interesting; earth, angel, spirit … I reflect on the symbolic reference, on a conscious level, and I seem to understand it, I am not sure, what is it but it is like a knowing without knowing and there are no words that can describe the resonance? Strange!
Anyway, the adolescent psychic and qualified hypnotherapist, explained that tattoos are an important reminder, for him, to boost his knowledge and personal development. His tattoos also reveal that Ross accepts philosophies from many different cultures and beliefs, with Hindu, Egyptian, pagan and Christian symbols present in his body art collection.
I asked the nineteen-year-old psychic what he thinks is spiritual. He paused for a brief moment, commenting that the question had never been asked before. However, his response was clear and, in short, warm and honorable. The abstemious, non-smoker, chemical-free vegetarian who uses wholeheartedly believes only in good thoughts, as negative thoughts only lead to temptation, respecting and caring for both himself and others. Ross explained that being spiritual means “understanding and compassion for others … understanding yourself … and inner growth.”
In other words, you think you need to look inward, work, and respect yourself. This young psychic, surprisingly, has the same spirit as rock legend Meatloaf: that you must work on yourself, making a concerted effort to look at “the man in the mirror.”
Now going on to grow and develop as a medium.
At the tender and, some might say, very significant age of fourteen, Ross began meditation classes at his local spiritualist church. Soon the church offered him a place in a closed (private) development circle. The circle taught him to open up to the spirit world, strengthen his bonds and communication skills, and hone his clear vision. They continued with meditation, practicing visualization techniques, and most importantly, they trained him to shut down, so that the spirit could not appear as and when they wanted.
But what about life at school?
Ross explained that his school was “very hard” but that his life was not difficult. Many of the children learned of Ross’s psychic abilities from their parents, who had seen the Adolescent Psychic demonstrate his ability in the Spiritualist Church. Those who knew he was clairvoyant accepted and understood him, which I think is a rarity given the non-spiritual environment. I also think that the support he received from his mother, (who introduced Ross to the Spiritualist Church), his close friends, and of course the church certainly helped him a lot during, what can be, very difficult and confusing years.
I learned from his website that Ross was interested in quantum mechanics, so I asked him to explain his understanding of the subject and how it relates to his work. The enthusiasm emanating from this young man was electric, exciting, and made me want to travel back in time to my science lessons, to really pay a little more attention!
Ross described how quantum theory could provide explanations for the different dimensions we live in and how we link to the spirit world through consciousness. “Science cannot connect science with consciousness,” said Ross, “Thought and consciousness are the building blocks of our reality …, (and) without consciousness, nothing else could exist.”
He explained the feeling of De Ja Vu as a real memory. He believes that even before we come into this life, our consciousness had already made all the decisions about what we experience in this life. Ross continues: “There are an infinite number of parallel universes, all with different choices and decisions.”
The image that I imagine from Ross’s theory is the following; Imagine that there are an infinite number of endless vertical straight lines. All the lines are dotted with markers, a bit like the “circles” in London Underground station. If you are currently on a particular route, but then choose a different route, you jump to a manufacturer on another line. However, it seems that this theory has a catch, as we are not in fact flitting through life on a random joyous journey, as our conscience has already predestined the results.
Ross, thankfully, injects a Star Wars analogy: Anakin Skywalker has a vision that his girlfriend dies, so he does everything he can to change the outcome, changing his decisions. It didn’t make an iota of difference though, as death was already predetermined and would have happened anyway, because the decisions that he believed she had changed ultimately led to her death anyway.
This young scientific mind, though extrasensory, offers more theories and little gems of wonder to ponder “.” God “is energy, he is almighty, he is everything and he knows everything … (God) is not governed or restricted by time. Energy cannot be created or destroyed because it is everything.”
“The act of looking for something will create something for us to find” is Ross’s short theory of the Law of Attraction, by which your thoughts create your reality. However, he cautions, what is proven now may not be true for years to come. He explains that Einstein’s theory of relativity was far beyond his time, at the time. However, that same theory, which has been spooned into the mouths of (willing, I must add) science students for years, has now been shown to be incorrect. He asks the question (which I happily label as a prediction) “What does it mean that there won’t be a radio connecting every home to the Spirit World for years to come?”
My vision? Ross Bartlett and Professor Brian Cox locked in a room for 24 hours (fed and watered occasionally, of course) with white boards, markers, sticky notes, and a laptop; Just to see what mind-blowing theories and scientific equations they come up with!
Returning to his job, Ross has appeared on BBC 3, demonstrating his mediumship skills in I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here star Joe Swash. The Teen Psychic said he definitely enjoyed the adding experience; “It was something different, something new.” He states that he is very open to the media, and indeed welcomes them, to reach out to those “who generally would not step into a spiritualist Church.” However, he is selective in what he does and says, “It has to feel good.”
For a recent psychic weekend event in Coventry, UK, Ross was described as “one of the top four mediums in the country.” At the event, he appeared alongside Colin Fry, Derek Acorah, and Ralph Keeton. I asked Ross if he ever felt condescending to what I described as “old school” mediums. He replied, “No. They respect me because I’ve gone out and done my thing.” Although he added that “mediums generally do not get along with other mediums, (as there is) there is a lot of competition, ego and jealousy”, he adds that there is a lot “massaging the ego, with autographs, people who want to take a picture of you, people. who come up to you and want to talk to you. “
During the next year, Ross will continue with his public demonstrations, in salons, theaters, pubs and discos. The Teen Psychic will also take his work to Norway and Sweden, where he reports that clairvoyance is becoming very popular. He has traveled to the United States for private one-on-one readings. In addition, Ross has just completed the first stage of his autobiography, which will be published in January 2013.
With his popularity increasing daily and the demands of his clairvoyance coming strong and fast, Ross still believes that charging “above the top is out of the question” for what he does. As a full-time medium, of course you need to get paid to survive, but you declare that financial rewards (or rather earnings) “should be avoided.”
I asked Ross if he had any advice for the budding “young” medium. Answered:
“Be who you are – Reflect your own personality – Take it one step at a time – Practice, practice, practice – Remember why you started”
Ross made it clear that his last point was related to intention; If you develop to help people, then you should continue with that ethic.
In conclusion, to me, to refer to Ross Bartlett as anything but a young man would be disrespectful, although the label “Teen Psychic” has really catapulted him into the fray. He is polite, friendly, aware of his own responsibility for the work he does, very curious, knowledgeable, forward-thinking and, in my opinion, exudes humility.
