Communicate With Men Who Are Emotionally Unavailable: Women Use These Tips To Communicate With Their Man

When you try to communicate with your boyfriend or husband, does it seem that he is not there emotionally? For example, you can never get him to tell you how he feels and when you express your own emotions to him, his eyes get cloudy and he has that “I have no idea what you’re talking about” look.

Trying to communicate with men who are emotionally unavailable can be frustrating, to say the least. Most men are emotionally unavailable to some degree because men are taught from birth to keep their emotions inside.

Relationship expert Kara Oh states in her book: easy men“Most men have limited access to their feelings and when they get emotional, they usually want to be alone.”

They are supposed to be tough. They are supposed to be able to handle even the most stressful and difficult problems on their own without breaking down. Because of this, men cannot access and express their feelings in the same way as women. Emotions of any kind, whether their own or someone else’s, make them feel uncomfortable, so they stay away from them.

So the question is, “How can you communicate with emotionally unavailable men?” After all, you need to be able to communicate openly with your partner if you want your relationship to last.

Kara Oh offers insight on how to communicate with emotionally unavailable men when she says, “When you need to express your emotions to your husband, try to give him a more logical explanation than you might otherwise. Tell him what you’re feeling and if you need help you solve your problem. You’ll feel relieved knowing what to do and be more understanding.”

Men are problem solvers. Many men see emotions as a problem. However, because they don’t understand them, they don’t know how to find a solution. This leaves them feeling frustrated and powerless. Helping them understand that you’re not looking for a solution can make them feel more understanding.

Don’t start a conversation by saying, “We need to talk.” Doing so can instantly make a man feel that there is a problem… and that he is the cause of it.

Emotionally unavailable men relate better to direct communication. It’s best to leave out all the little details that you might tell your friends. Men like to know the end result so they know what is expected of them.

Next, avoid using words like “never” and “always,” which can make an emotionally unavailable man defensive and cautious. Men tend to take words literally, so when you say, “You never spend time with me and the kids,” they think that’s exactly what you mean. It hurts because he dismisses all the times he does it make time for you
