Have overweight? Know if you are fit or fat by calculating your body mass index (BMI)

The body mass index, popularly known as BMI, is a way of calculating the proportion of fitness (or fat!) Of the body. It has a simple formula, by which we can know our BMI quotient and determine our current state of fitness. The BMI number is determined based on a person’s height and weight.

Body mass index (BMI) = (Weight in kilograms) / (Height in meters) ²

gold,

Body Mass Index (BMI) = (Weight in pounds * 703) / (Height in inches) ²

For example, if your weight is 60 kilograms and your height is 1.5 meters, your BMI will be: (60) / (1.5) ² = 26.66. Similarly, if you want to calculate your weight in pounds, you can convert kilograms to pounds (1 kg = approximately 2.20 pounds) and meters to inches (1 meter = 39.37 inches) and calculate your BMI. The resulting figure will obviously be the same!

The BMI figure thus obtained is indicative of our current state of body weight, and can be compared with the help of the following table:

• A BMI less than 18.5 means that your body is underweight.

• If the BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9 it means that your body has a normal weight.

• BMI between 25 and 29.9 means that your body is overweight.

• And, if your BMI is equal to or greater than 30, it means you are obese

So the person in the example above has a BMI of 26.66, which means that they are slightly overweight and need to burn some fat.

Although there are various theories and debate about what exactly an ideal eight is for a body, BMI is still an effective indicative method, if not the exact one, to determine where you currently are in terms of weight and how much fat you are consuming. You need to lose or win, whichever is the case!
