Healthy diet plans or diet myths?

Diet plans or diet myths seems like a simple question, but when trying to come up with a healthy eating plan, many people are stumped about the accuracy of much of the diet advice.

So let’s try to establish some facts so that you can choose the healthy eating plan that suits you instead of getting bogged down in the many diet myths.

Many “fatties” think they are fat because of their DNA. You may have heard that some people inherit a gene related to obesity and this is a proven fact.

However, genetic data is not a reasonable excuse to avoid a weight loss program.

There are many people who simply do not accept that a healthy diet is part of losing weight. Well they are wrong! A healthy weight loss diet is easily demonstrated as soon as you step on the bathroom scale. A healthy diet includes six to eight glasses of water a day, five servings of fresh fruits and vegetables every day, lean meats, and quality carbohydrates.

Ignore any foods high in saturated fat, sugar, and salt, as well as the dreaded muffins (over 350 calories), cakes, cookies, and fancy cream-filled pastries. Add in about 25 to 30 minutes of movement each day and you’ll be on your way to a fit and healthy body.

That doesn’t mean you can’t have a treat or two, though, as long as it’s just one or two and in moderation. You can take to heart the title of the old song “A little of what you fancy does you good” made famous by former music-hall star Marie Lloyd in the late 19th century.

Many people simply don’t know that processed foods are not as healthy as fresh fruits and vegetables and treat this information as one of the diet myths. They seem to be seduced by the idyllic illustrations of happy animals in a jungle setting. However, fruits and vegetables have better health properties than processed foods. They are often loaded with salt, sugar, preservatives, and additives to improve flavor and shelf life.

Unless you don’t have anything else in the house, there’s no need to turn to processed foods. In fact, a good reason to eat fresh produce is that it’s cheaper and more satisfying. If you eat a well-planned healthy menu, it’s easy to fill it up with good foods, such as rice, bags, beans, and vegetables. And, as a bonus, it will taste much more appealing and will be an essential part of any diet plan.

Therefore, a good eating plan does not have to be expensive, in fact it will be considerably cheaper than eating take-out and oven-prepared dishes. It’s certainly an urban myth that fresh fruits and vegetables are much more expensive than prepared meals, processed foods, and the like.

However, it does mean that you have to take a little more time to prepare your own meals. However, great diet plans are worth it.
