Nimerigar: a creature of cryptozoology

Basically, the legends and folk tales are unfounded. Most of us believe that little people only exist in folklore along with giants, goblins, fairies, and ghosts. Legends tell us that little people used to inhabit the surface of the earth. They coexist with humans. However, they went underground because they were mistreated by the “big” people. We find stories about little people in all cultures and in all countries of the world.

These tiny people who live in caves, in forests, and near lakes and rivers often play pranks on people. These dwarfs would hide human belongings, take children from cruel parents. Some folktales say that these little people show themselves to children and, once seen by an adult, beg them not to reveal their existence. They would offer leftovers and promise to help the family in times of need.

If there are nice little people, there are also cruel dwarfs. The Shoshone Indians of the Rocky Mountains of North America also have a part of the folklore. The story of the malevolent race of dwarves was told from generation to generation. According to Shoshone history, the Nimerigar are destructive and violent little people who lived in the Wind River and mountains of Wyoming, particularly the Pedro Range.

The Nimerigar are spiteful little people. They would fight humans using small bows to shoot poisoned arrows. When a Nimerigar becomes too sick to be of any use to society, they are killed with a blow to the head. Many stories were told about these little people but, as always, they were conceived as figments of someone’s fertile imagination until a skeleton was found which was speculated to be the remains of a Nimerigar in 1932.

The Pedro Mountain Mummy, also known as the Wyoming Dwarf Mummy, was found by Cecil Main and Frank Carr. These two gold prospectors blew up a rock face in the Pedro Mountains. And they found the 14-inch mummy sitting cross-legged on a small rock ledge. Her hands are crossed in her lap, like a Buddha. The dark brown skin is wrinkled; her nose extends flat and out. The mummy has a low forehead and a wide, thin-lipped mouth. The mummy is well preserved, in fact you can clearly see the nails. The mummy was studied by archaeologists. The X-ray showed that the skull was shattered by a heavy blow. This fact caused some experts to conclude that the skeleton is a Nimerigar.

There is a website that describes Nimerigar and many other cryptozoology creatures in detail, this website is called: Unknown Creatures and can be found at this URL: unknown-creatures.com
