There is no time to lose

Fat kids… skinny kids… kids of all kinds. that’s the beginning of a popular commercial, the problem is there are way more fat kids than skinny kids in America. And not just children, adults are getting fat too. It is said that as adults we tend to add almost 10 pounds a year to our body weight. And that’s not muscle tissue or water weight. It’s just plain old grease.

When you add fat to your body, you are missing out on the nutrients your body needs. This is bad for adults, but much worse for children. Everyone talks about children being our future. If things continue to progress as they are now, that future will be a disaster. A society of people who can barely get out of bed and go to work. The idea of getting up and going to the gym to get some exercise for our future citizens is almost absurd.

The latest figures I’ve seen reported is that the typical American consumes about 10 pounds of sugar a year. What a mess! There is little to no redeeming quality in sugar. Okay, it tastes good for those who like sweets. And for those with extra-sensitive taste buds for sweetness, eating sugar-packed treats is like manna from heaven. But unfortunately, the part of the body that celebrates the sweetness of sugar is less than a square inch in size. It is a small spot or area on the tongue.

Once you get past that little acreage, everything breaks loose. Your blood sugar spikes, causing your insulin levels to skyrocket and go haywire and your pancreas, I’m willing to bet, starts sweating. That is if you really could. I know you can’t be happy. Blood sugar has its place. You may experience low blood sugar, which is obviously a sign that there is not enough sugar in your system. But aside from that, the white granular substance should be placed on the shelf and left there for ants or some other small creature. that they get fat

The root of the problem, to my way of thinking, is the pace at which we now live our daily lives. A meal at home with the whole family at the table is for the most part non-existent. If you happen to come across a family having dinner together, chances are they are hiding at a table in a fast food restaurant. I know I’ve given sugar a beating, but he’s not the only culprit here. Fried foods fresh from the fryer are just as bad. In their own way, they are even worse.

Who to blame for the lack of freshly prepared family meals? No one in particular. There’s plenty of blame to go around. Fast paced life span is a big culprit. Mom and Dad work trying to get by, and then all the extracurricular activities the kids are pushed into, so they can have an awesome college application that plays into our bad eating habits. Or unsupervised children after school, buying soda, candy and chips. Not to mention a million kinds of donuts and other crap.

So what is the answer? I knew you’d have to ask that. There is not a single answer. There are several answers, depending on which direction you want to attack the problem from. It is an extraordinary story.

America is getting fatter by the day. It is time to reverse the trend. Can be done. It’s a matter of finding the right sources and taking the time to put a plan into action. If we, as a country and as a people, don’t do something right now, life expectancy that has expanded in the recent past will actually begin to contract.
