There’s a lot to love about Carson, California

Located in southern Los Angeles County, Carson is a sunny city situated between Los Angeles and Long Beach. Carson is easily accessible from several major highways and has much to offer, from historical landmarks and cultural attractions to excellent dining and shopping.

Carson is conveniently located just 13 miles south of downtown Los Angeles and is less than 30 minutes from Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Long Beach, and Anaheim. Carson is also less than 20 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport. Incorporated in 1968, Carson has a population of just over 90,000 and is home to the Home Depot Center, where the Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA soccer teams play their home games. Soccer legend David Beckham signed with the Galaxy in 2007, so you might get a chance to watch him play while he visits Carson.

Carson also offers more than fifteen beautiful parks and several public pools, including the Dominguez Aquatic Center on Santa Fe Avenue. This huge swimming complex features water sprinklers and shade structures, a children’s pool, an adult pool, and a activity pool complete with water slides for children and adults. The Hemingway Aquatic Center, located on South San Pedro Street, also offers children’s and adult pools, water spray structures, and 16.5-foot-tall water slides.

Be sure to check out Anderson Park, located on Wilmington Avenue, while visiting Carson. This large park features a children’s pool, Frisbee golf course, picnic areas, and an outdoor amphitheater that hosts lots of fun and free events throughout the year. Mills Park on Diamondale Drive is a smaller park that also has Frisbee golf and a children’s pool, as well as picnic areas and two playgrounds. If you or one of your fellow travelers would rather skateboard than swim or picnic, be sure to stop at Veteran’s Park on Moneta Avenue. This world-class museum houses one of the largest collections of historic graphic arts equipment in the world and educates visitors on the evolution of printing. When planning a visit to Carson, keep in mind that the International Museum of Printing is only open on Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm However, special appointments can be made Tuesday through Friday.

The Redondo Beach Pier is just a six mile drive directly west of Carson and is definitely worth the 20 minute drive through Torrance. The Pier offers shopping, nightlife, dining, and many outdoor activities including biking, jogging, kayaking, paddle boarding, surfing, and scuba diving. There are also festivals, concerts and other events throughout the year. Along the pier you’ll also find the famous Redondo Beach International Boardwalk and Marina, featuring its own set of fabulous restaurants, shops, and boat rentals.

Carson is also home to the SouthBay Pavilion Mall which is anchored by Sears, JC Penney, Ikea and Target. Other stores in the mall include The Children’s Place, Old Navy, Big 5, and even Chuck E. Cheese. Restaurants in the mall include Panera Bread, Tony Roma’s, Chili’s, and SanSai Japanese Grill. If antiques are more your style, you’ll want to check out Memory Lanes Antique Mall in South Figueroa, which features over 250 different antique dealers in one location.
