5 stretching exercises to grow taller

1. The hang up
With this you can easily gain 1 to 1.5 inches and it is the simplest of all. You simply need to hang your body from a height. Whether it’s clinging to a pull-up bar, goal posts, a tree, a bus shelter, anything. You only need to hang for a few minutes at a time. This gives the disks in the spine time to decompress. It’s also great for realigning poor posture while your body stretches back to its natural shape. This is using gravity to make you taller instead of letting it make you shorter.

2. Indian push up
This goes by many names, including the Hindu push up and the yoga push up. As you can probably guess, it comes from an Indian yogic movement where you push yourself in an arc, so instead of going up and down, you’re also going back and forth.

3. Twist
The goal of this exercise is to twist the spine and this is a movement that people will often find quite difficult at first as the spine has become very inflexible over time. The lower part of the spine especially suffers from compression due to our sitting position most of the time.
Stand in a doorway facing the door frame. Plant your feet firmly on the ground and using the frame as leverage, push your body up as far as possible. It is important to also push the head and stretch the entire column from the bottom up. Do this in both directions to ensure balance.

4. Shoulder lift
Lying on your stomach with your face on the floor (do not turn your neck to the side!). You will feel your shoulders and arms pulling on the ground due to gravity. If you lift your shoulders and arms completely off the ground while counting to 10, drop them. Repeat this movement 5 times in the morning and at night and you will gain an inch after 3-4 weeks. This works by working a muscle that is often very weak in most people. The muscle in the center of the spine loosens from sitting at office desks all day and slouching over things. When it weakens, it lets your body sink and you lose height.

5. sleep
The final exercise is a bit misleading, as there are many more exercises to get tall throughout this small selection, but I wanted to end with one of my favorites. Sleep is fantastic when increasing height, but you need to get enough of it to really benefit. You’ve probably heard that during sleep you get taller as your handstand decompresses. True, but if you don’t get enough sleep, your mood and lack of proper spinal recovery will cause you to slouch, ruin your posture, compress your internal organs, and squash your chances to grow. Sleeping at least 7 but preferably 8 hours a night is essential to reach the height you want.
