king crab

King crab, along with all shellfish, is one of my passions. The truth is that many people like king crab recipes. Today’s menu is one of my favorites, for my family and especially for my grandmother! Unfortunately, we are not able to prepare it often due to the availability and high cost of seafood.

King crab is the star of this Thai curry stir fry and one of the most popular meals served in many restaurants in Thailand. It is easy to cook and alternatively, along with the king crab, you can use mixed seafood of your choice. So maybe we’ll get started.

I usually cook this recipe with finely chopped whole king crab. Here are a couple of tips on live, frozen or fresh king crab and shellfish. Be sure to always thaw frozen shellfish safely in the refrigerator. A humane way to use live shellfish is to place the king crab in the freezer. It makes them sleep and as I said they do better when you put them in the boiling water.

Prepare the sauce by mixing an egg in a bowl. Add a tablespoon* of oyster sauce, one tablespoon. light soy sauce, a teaspoon ** ginger, a teaspoon. sugar and just a tbsp. curry powder. Beat together until the flavors marry. Put a skillet over medium heat and add six tablespoons of oil. Chop five garlic cloves, one green onion cut into one-inch pieces, and dice one onion. Sauté the garlic for two minutes, then add the crab meat and saute another two to four minutes until cooked through. Toss with the light soy sauce mixture, serve over a bed of rice and enjoy.

An all-American favorite, and mine too, is crab cake, served as an appetizer or main dish. There are many recipes from all regions of the country. Basically, the main ingredients are crab meat, eggs, breadcrumbs, and seasonings, one of the most well-known being Old Bay seasonings. A crab cake can be baked, sautéed, fried, and even grilled. Dust them in cookie crumbs, flour, or simply add parsley for color, and a good tip is to refrigerate them slightly, two to four hours before cooking. They will stick together when cooked.

While using your favorite recipe or cooking method, here are some helpful tips. If you are sautéing the king crab cakes, sear them in butter until crisp on both sides. When baking, lightly butter each crab cake on a larger baking sheet. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees and cook until crisp and cooked through, or fry at 360 to 380 for two to three minutes.

A popular and well-known crab cake is the Maryland crab cake, another one of my favorite recipes that uses mayonnaise, mustard, and hot sauce in the recipe. It can be placed on the bread of your choice, as a sandwich with a creamy tartar sauce of mayonnaise, pickles, Worcestershire sauce, mustard if you prefer, lemon and hot sauce for heating. Or a tomato based seafood sauce with horseradish spicing it up. Just remember, whether it’s king crab or your favorite shellfish. Enjoy!
