Activity for parents and babies 3 – 6 months

Your baby can still enjoy the exercises from the first 3 months, but you can also add the following:

o To help stimulate your baby’s desire to learn, you should encourage him to touch a variety of items in all shapes, materials, and textures. Give him large, small (but not small enough to fit in his mouth), round, square, long, short, thick, or thin items. Remember, don’t just use toys, use anything from kitchen utensils to fruit. You can also try filling a small plastic bottle with rice, couscous, or peas to make a rattle!

o Sit with your legs straight and lay the baby on your tummy on your lap. You should be able to touch the ground with your hands. Put one hand on her butt or back to give her some support. Put a toy on the floor in front of him and encourage him to play. This exercise is good to help develop coordination.

o From 4-5 months, your baby will want to see the world from a different perspective, so he will try to sit up. If your baby raises his head a little, it is an indicator that he wants to sit up. Offer your hands and if the baby takes them, lift him up a little but not all the way. With patience, your baby will eventually learn to push himself up with your support.

o Sit on the floor with your legs stretched out. Hold your baby around the waist and gently lift him up, then let him lightly touch your legs with his feet. Your legs should begin to bend and straighten in a jumping motion.
