The CHOCO-LATE Affair

In May the famous Choco-Late festival takes place where you see nothing but chocolatiers and chocolate lovers. This festival emphasizes Belgian chocolate which is dark and smooth. You’ll find chocolate in all shapes and styles at the Choco-Late festival held every year in the old Musée de Belfort. Chocolate artists make sculptures out of pure Belgian chocolates. You can also try the variety of chocolates that are available here and there are also chocolate sales!

There is a section especially for children known as the Chocolate Painting Gallery where children can paint and draw with chocolate. Fun, right? Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. And in case your child is under 6, then it’s free!

Anyone can walk into this fair at an affordable price too! Affordable Art Fair takes place every year at Tour & Taxis, avenue du Port.

Carnivals are incomplete without colorful costumes and wonderful music! The Binche Carnival is the most exciting event one can find. It takes place every year on Mondays, Tuesdays and Sundays. It is the largest carnival in Belgium and events start seven weeks before the actual celebration. The carnival features street performances, public displays, traditional dress, dance performances, and marches.

The highlights of the show are the clowns who are known as Gilles. They wear vibrant clothing and soft footwear that makes them look unique and cool! These Gilles dance to the beat of drums and carry sticks to ward off evil spirits. If you are here in Belgium, you cannot miss this carnival. This festival takes place before Ash Wednesday.
