Bringing a cat home to a child or baby

You have a toddler or a newborn baby. You want a fart. You want a kitty to be specific. This situation is the same as bringing home a new baby with a cat, only now you are bringing home a cat with a toddler or baby. You may be a little anxious about how this is going to end. There are things you can do to make it a simple and enjoyable process for both the feline and the kids.

The first thing to do is to establish the area for the pet. This area is for the cat only. The next step is to have another area where the cat and children can play together. Never leave the pet and children unsupervised, especially if they are small children. Small children may have the cat, but they may not know how to treat it.

Have the children and the cat play together in the common area. Teach both the children and the animals some games to play together. Using a piece of string, place your hand under a blanket and let the cat chase it. I’m sure other ideas come to mind. Allow this for only a short period of time at first. Let the two different species gradually get used to it.

Your children will scare the cat. There is no doubt about that. These animals are afraid of things that children do naturally. The sudden movement of the human can scare the cat, since he is not used to this type of mobility. The crying of children and babies can make the pet nervous. The cat is not used to these sounds and has to get used to them.

You need to show your child or children how to show that you love the family pet. Show your child where the pet likes to scratch. show your children how to speak to the pet in a low, calm and reassuring voice. You definitely have to show them how to pick up the feline without hurting it. Show them that they should never corner the cat. This will lead to being bitten or scratched.

Even if your children get along with your family pet, you should always be watching. Who knows when one of the kids will decide it’s a good idea to pull the cats tail.
