Drive correct student behavior through effective gamified learning strategies

Online learning has undergone unprecedented changes following profound technological advances. Today, industries are skeptical about the feasibility of gamified learning to motivate and engage new-age learners. Gamification is a robust tool used to innovate, boost learner skills, create desired behavior, and enhance learner engagement. It is the concept of applying game elements to non-game applications to make them more fun and entertaining.

Gamification: learning from the world of videogames

Today, it is important for organizations to understand the psychology of their employees by accessing gamified learning courses. This study can be represented by Fogg’s behavior model used to understand the importance of gamification in e-learning. Basically, there are three main factors underlying learner behavior: motivation, ability, and arousal.

1. Motivation-The learner wants to play to drive a specific behavior (due to hope, fear, acceptance and rejection).

2. Skill- It allows the student to carry out that behavior due to factors such as time, effort, resources, social deviance.

3. Trigger- The learner is activated through reminders, signals and actions, to perform the desired behavior.

All of the above factors must occur at the same time when the behavior occurs.

Gamification has carved an important niche for itself when it comes to improving learning efficiency and productivity in the workplace. The amalgamation of instructional design and multimedia has encouraged the incorporation of interactive games to easily engage students. Learners can play and access the same course multiple times, helping them retain information for longer.

According to the survey conducted by Pew Research Center, 53% of people said that by the year 2020, the gamification trend in e-learning will be widespread.

E-learning has been the backbone of today’s corporate learning scenarios and its enhancement to meet diversified learning needs. The introduction to engaging games combined with existing training programs offers an experience that is motivating and fun-filled. Gamification has proven to be an effective tool to turn boring text into dynamic and interesting content. It encourages self-sufficiency in terms of the employee’s ability to progress in today’s ever-changing environment. Whether in a classroom or training area, games excel at delivering the right kind of information at the right time. Consequently, the implementation of games has helped improve learner engagement and participation in online training programs. In short, gamification will take your learning experience to the level of motivation and interactivity that the modern world is looking for.
