Green Tea – The Disadvantages

Everyone believes that green tea is one of the healthiest beverages we have. However, if we drink too much, it could negatively affect our kidneys. However, it is rare that we are greatly affected by the consumption of green tea. It can also damage our lives. However, it should be noted that the health advantages of the drink far outweigh its disadvantages, as long as it is not drunk in excessive amounts.

Scientists say that you can safely drink up to ten cups of green tea a day. Problems arise when you take supplements. These can contain up to fifty times the amount of polyphenols as a cup of tea.

Experiments in rats, mice, and dogs have shown that liver poisoning can occur when animals receive excessive amounts of polyphenols.

Another problem with drinking green tea is that, believe it or not, it contains caffeine. If you have a problem with caffeine, avoid green tea, as it can cause insomnia, upset stomach, and even nausea and irritability.

If you have to take blood thinners like coumarin or warfarin, it is better not to take it because it contains vitamin K. Ask your doctor if you can take the drink and also find out how much is safe for you.

You should not drink green tea and take aspirin either.

During pregnancy it is not correct to take supplements since these are not strictly regulated. The tea itself is fine, it’s the extracts and supplements that can cause problems.

The catechins in hot green tea can ward off colds and the flu, especially if you take it with lemon and honey instead of using sugar as a sweetener. However, the caffeine found in the drink can inhibit the body’s ability to absorb iron. However, drinking your tea with freshly squeezed lemon juice can mitigate the effect of the tea. To combat this possible lack of iron, eat plenty of foods rich in vitamin C, such as oranges, broccoli, other brassicas, and liver.

If you’re on a diet, the amount of sweeteners you mix into your cup will add calories to your drink. A cup of green tea without sweeteners has zero calories.

Basically, if you are a healthy person and consume this drink in moderation, it should be a healthy drink. Use common sense and don’t drink large amounts of the stuff.
