Helmet Visor Cleaning – Keep Visor Scratch Free

Although at first the visor on a motorcycle helmet may not seem overly important, the face shield is actually vitally important to your safety and not just in the unfortunate event of an accident. The shield itself can help prevent accidents, but to do its job properly, you need to take care of your visor.

Helmet visors get dirty very easily, it is an integral part of their job. All the little dirt particles and flies that would hit your face hit the visor. Of course, if your visor gets too dirty, there may be visibility issues. To keep your visor safe and secure, you will need to clean it frequently. However, there are certain problems with cleaning motorcycle helmet visors.

Chemical cleaners, for example, can damage the visor material and also interact poorly with any surface you already have. Iridium visors and mirrors are especially vulnerable to this problem.

Instead of expensive cleaning products, most visor manufacturers recommend that their products be washed by immersion in warm water. Regular soap is usually not a problem, but it is possible that using soap can smudge or scratch the visor, causing the same problem to see through the visor.

You will also need to clean the visor to remove any stubborn marks. However, this is another process that requires care. A rough cloth can scratch the surface, so it is important to use a soft cloth, such as a microfiber cloth. Another important tip, even with a soft cloth, is don’t rub too hard. Small dirt particles can get caught between the cloth and the visor and if you wipe too hard, even with the softest cloth you can find, those dirt particles could just as easily scratch the visor. It goes without saying that scratches can ruin a visor and should be avoided at all costs.

Taking care of your helmet visor can help prevent serious problems, not to mention save you money since you won’t have to replace it as often. If you are still unsure or would like to take extra care, there are also specialized cleaning kits available.
