How to spot a fake Jimmy Choo bag

  • Label: The Jimmy Choo tag is usually a lilac-colored metal face attached to a leather backing and sewn to the inside of the bag. Many fakes have the wrong shade of lilac, either going light or too dark in the purple spectrum. The label should read gold or silver. However, even if the colors are correct, the label may still not be clear. Because it is often the source details that are unique to the authentic Jimmy Choo, many of the fake bags get it wrong, and this is one of the best places to look when trying to identify a fake J. Choo.
  • Do: Always check out the “H” in Choo. On an authentic handbag, the horizontal crossbar of the H should not be in the center of the letter, as it should with respect to most standard fonts. Instead, the H in Jimmy Choo should have the crossbar closer to the top, around 75-80% of the height of the H, when measured from the bottom of the letter. If the bag has the correct H, move to the letters “O” in Choo. On an authentic bag, the O will have a slightly dented appearance. This means that the “O” will appear as if someone touched the top of the letter, giving the O an oval shape instead of a perfect circle. Spotting a fake Jimmy Choo bag often comes down to the niceties of the source.
  • Hardware: Any screw located in the bag hardware will always be a flat head (-) screw. Jimmy Choo will never use Philips (+) head screws on any of his bags.
  • Dust bag: Fake Jimmy Choo bags are often accompanied by a cover of the wrong color or format. An authentic dust bag should have the logo: “JIMMY CHOO”, with “LONDON” perfectly centered below the logo. The fountain should be an embossed grey, while the dust bag itself will be the famous lilac colour. Many counterfeits will have the wrong font colors on the dust bag, as well as the wrong dust bag color, i.e. the wrong shades of purple, etc. Good luck and safe shopping!
