Menage a Trois Mac and Cheese

This is a very easy baked mac n cheese recipe. If you can boil water and preheat an oven, then you can make this dish. Cheese sauce is made from cream cheese, milk, butter, and two other ingredients. In the following recipe, those other two ingredients are the Italian provolone and parmesan cheeses, but you can experiment with the cheese combination. Tried this Gouda Cheddar Cream Cheese Dip, which resulted in a relatively smooth mac n cheese. Combining the sauce with cheddar cheese and Parmesan makes for a sharper combination. I’ve also heard of people making this cream cheese sauce with Monterey jack, mozzarella, and pepper jack.

For pasta, you can use a small or medium-sized pasta, such as elbow macaroni or rotini. If you like your macaroni crunchy, leave the top uncovered. For a crispy brown crust, sprinkle grated or grated Parmesan on top before putting it in the oven. Or you can top with slices of provolone and sprinkle with seasoned breadcrumbs. The breadcrumbs will brown while the cheese slices underneath will melt sticky. You can put everything in a casserole or make individual servings by dividing it into individual ramekins.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound macaroni

  • 3 tablespoons of butter

  • 8 ounces cream cheese

  • 2 1/2 cups milk

  • 1 1/2 cups parmesan cheese, grated or grated

  • 1 1/2 cups provolone cheese, grated or shredded

  • salt, pepper, and other seasonings of your choice

  • extra cheese for topping (optional)

  • Italian breadcrumbs (also optional)

Addresses:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Cook macaroni according to package directions and drain.

3. Put the cream cheese, butter and milk in a single pot on the stove. Heat until butter and cream cheese are melted, about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. Add cooked pasta, 1 1/2 cups Parmesan, and 1 1/2 cups provolone. Stir to combine and season as desired.

5. Pour everything into a saucepan or divide into individual ramekins. Top with additional cheese and breadcrumbs if desired. Put the dish or pans in the oven and bake for about half an hour.

Note on plugins: You may want to add meat or vegetables to make this a complete and more balanced meal. Some suggestions include chicken, ham, mushrooms, peas, or asparagus. Fresh herbs can be good too.
