Niagara Falls: an enchanting and timeless wonder

Two different cities, two different countries, both bordering a geological wonder: Niagara Falls, made up of three separate waterfalls: the Canadian Falls known as Horseshoe Falls which, due to its horseshoe shape, falls from three directions; American Falls and Bridal Falls side by side falling from one direction.

Niagara Falls is one of nature’s most magnificent sights to behold. The sheer width and height of the Canadian Falls leaves the viewer amazed and mesmerized, and their horseshoe formation takes it to another level of awe. As an observer, you’ll be treated to a visual treat, which at night is further enhanced by projected colored lights for a spectacular light show.

While looking at the Horseshoe Falls in Ontario, you also see the American Falls, which if located elsewhere would also be considered very large, but instead are quite small in comparison. Next to the American Falls are the Bridal Falls, smaller but very beautiful, with a quite apt name since at sight it is similar to the veil of a wedding dress. Canada has the best view of the falls. The United States has virtually none, although it is from the United States that you can enter the caves located behind American Falls for a truly unique experience and perspective.

All things considered, when visiting the Falls, there is no point in trying to visit Niagara Falls, New York, USA. Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada is definitely the place you want to visit to appreciate the sight of all the Waterfalls. The falls’ location in Ontario capitalizes on what can only be described as a circus-like atmosphere. The attractions on Clifton Hill, in the heart of the tourist area, are somewhat bizarre, with enough wax museums to last a lifetime, rows of haunted houses, and plenty of other museums of assorted quirks.

On the surface it is so contrary to a natural wonder, but similar in that the falls are also unreal, unusual and incredible. Accommodations in Niagara Falls, Ontario are plentiful and most of the dining rooms, bars and lounges are located within them. In my experience, opting for a room with a view of the Horseshoe Falls and being close enough to hear it is the best experience. Aside from hotel accommodation, you’ll find plenty of B&Bs and camping facilities, though they don’t offer the views you might imagine.

Waterfall attractions are also plentiful, whether it’s watching the American Falls tumble from inside the caves, a scenic helicopter ride for a unique vantage point, or riding the giant Ferris wheel. There are many to choose from. The latest, in my opinion, is the Maid of the Mist cruise, which takes you on a boat ride over all the waterfalls. The ride is nothing short of amazing and a must do. The falls churn up the water you are sailing on and create a mist that surrounds you. Rain coats are provided and you can stay in an enclosed area on the ship, but the cruise is designed for standing on deck and getting soaked.

The falls are enchanting and a constant eternal wonder, and for those reasons, they are also a popular honeymoon destination.
