PetSafe Dog Training Collar Review

As one of the largest retailers of PetSafe dog training collars in the UK, we wrote to review the new PetSafe Venture training collars.

In many ways, the new Venture dog training collars are a big cosmetic step up from more conventional black square training collars like the older PetSafe 400 remote trainers. If you look at what most manufacturers have produced in the past, it has been a square black receiver collar with a black strap and a working black remote control.

The new PetSafe Venture Receiver Collars are aesthetically pleasing in a translucent blue casing that is nicely curved to complement the dogs neck, they certainly look much more comfortable for dogs to wear. This exciting new lifestyle look of the PetSafe Venture Training Collars has really set them apart and this factor alone has generated a lot of interest from potential customers. One point to note is that some people who are a little wary of what others will think when their dog is wearing a static collar have been pleased to purchase a collar that doesn’t actually look like a static training collar.

Venture training collars come in two different models, the Venture 350 for small dogs up to 40lbs in weight that work at a distance of up to 1,150 feet, and the Venture 900 for medium to large dogs for dogs over 40lbs that they work up to 900 meters away. While the technology is the same in both collars, the static pulse level is understandably lower in the smaller 350 Venture. Both Venture collars can operate 1 or 2 dogs from the same remote, so all you need to do is purchase a second receiver collar to turn them into a two-dog training system.

Whether you decide to purchase a new PetSafe Venture training collar or not, we recommend that you always set it to the lowest setting and gradually increase it until you find the right level for your dog. Keep in mind that all you’re trying to do is set this to a level where it disrupts your dog’s thought trail. This is important as these collars need to be used sensitively and in a controlled manner, as this can be extremely effective as a training aid.

PetSafe Venture trainers are completely waterproof, so streams, rivers and lakes are definitely a no-brainer for dogs that love to get wet, with no damaging effects on collars. They’re also mains rechargeable, so just charge them overnight and you’re ready to go.

A very important feature that these Venture collars have is a large red button on the earpiece, this is a boost button that increases the static level by three levels and is ideal in emergencies. If, for example, you see your dog running into a busy street, you can use this feature to save his life.

So how reliable are these PetSafe Venture collars? We have been selling them for over six months now and they seem to have been very reliable, we have had very few aftermarket issues and most have generally been very pleased with their performance. Dogs seem to find them very comfortable to wear and their owners have found them to be effective.
