The number of families opting for homeschooling is increasing every year. With a growth rate starting at 7% and even higher, it’s easy to understand why more and more parents are starting to think of it as a viable option for their children’s education. I have created a list here of the pros and cons of homeschooling. An educational system like that would always have two faces. There is likely to be a negative side and a positive side.
Pros: You need to be aware of the possibilities of this before you jump in. So here we take a look at the pros first.
• One of the biggest advantages homeschooling can provide is the fact that students have much more freedom when it comes to choosing what to study. Since their parents or guardians are the ones who determine the curriculum, then they can have some influence on it. However, that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t be studying the basics.
• Another big advantage of this is the physical freedom it provides. While it’s still a good idea to set a specific time to study each day, swapping it out for some other activity would be much less of a hassle. Compare that to a regular one where the student would have to choose between being absent from school and giving up the family activity.
• We all know that schools are not as cheerful as we want them to be, and while we can downplay the problems that children face there, it is quite serious for them. Peer pressure, adolescence, and bullying are just some of the things they have to deal with at school. It will give you a choice.
• Many families choose to homeschool because of religious freedom. For some people that may be a reason to speak ill, but for religious families it is a true blessing.
• A direct result that cannot be denied is that it brings the family closer together. It enhances the parent-child relationship and takes it to a whole new and different level.
• Children can get plenty of rest when they do this. This is something they don’t get when they go to regular schools where they may have to wake up very early in the morning.
Cons – As we have mentioned, there is also a downside to homeschooling and these are some of them:
• Perhaps the biggest drawback to this is that it will require a lot from parents and guardians. It will consume a lot of your time and it will be a big responsibility.
• Another downside to this is that it will cost a lot more. Middle-income families may have a hard time coping.
• Then there is the danger of being perceived as an oddity. Homeschooling parents should be careful that their children do not have this feeling.
