Miami, also known as “Magic City”, is located in the southeastern part of the state of Florida, on the banks of the Miami River, between swamps and the Atlantic Ocean. The city was founded relatively recently, in 1896. Since then it has grown a lot and now belongs to the privileged caste of cities with a very high standard of living.
The city has a population of more than 3.5 million and for 2/3 of these million the native language is Spanish. Miami is often considered to be the gateway to the United States, especially for immigrants from Cuba.
Miami is not the safest city in the country. In addition, it always ranks first in all lists of the most dangerous cities in the US. A popular tourist center, Miami is full of laid-back tourists and wealthy businessmen, a good booty for criminals.
Big Miami includes Miami itself and Miami Beach. Most tourists choose Miami Beach. It is an island (before it was a peninsula) 6 kilometers from Miami. It is a very prestigious place for vacations and is sometimes called “the island of billionaires”. Miami receives around 11 million tourists annually. Near Miami there are several small islands built with beautiful luxury villas.
As a tourist hub, Miami is known for its golden sand, clear blue sea, and tropical climate. Miami, and especially Miami Beach, is full of luxury hotels, simple motels. The white yachts of the wealthiest local residents adorn the sea near the coast and symbolize their elegant lifestyle.
Local attractions include the Oceanarium, the Art Deco District, the Everglades Nature Preserve, a haven for rare and unique plants and animals.
Bayfront Park is a picturesque nature reserve with fountains, sculptures, and small boat harbors. In the northern part there is a huge shopping center.
Florida with its cape Canaveron is one of the American space centers along with Houston. When in Miami, you have the opportunity to visit the John F. Kennedy Space Research Center and see early complexes and museums.
