Beautiful Omis Riviera

Omis Riviera is an incredibly beautiful part of the Croatian coast. It stretches from the town of Omis to the small resort town of Pisak.The central town of Omis Riviera is of course Omis. City with an incredibly rich history dating back to prehistoric times. The most interesting ones are definitely Omis Pirates. Omiš was well known in the past by the Corsairs of Almissa (Omiški gusari) whose Sagittas (ships) (Genitive case: Sagittae, translated as The Arrow), gave them fame because they were built for attack and rapid recovery in the mouth of the Cetina River, protecting the city from foreign invaders. At a very early date, the neighbors of the Corsairs of Almissa, the highlanders of the Principality of Poljica (PoljiÄ ka Republika), became their friends and allies. This allowed them to harass the maritime trade, without fear of a sudden attack from within.

In the Priko neighborhood, on the right bank of the Cetina river, is the site of greatest historical significance: the pre-Romanesque church of St. Peter (Crkva Sv. Petra) from the 10th century AD This single-nave building, with a cupola and apse, it was used in the 18th century as a Glagolitic seminary for novice priests. Along the coast of the Omis Riviera and the following places were established: Nemira, Stamici, Ruskamen, Lokva Rogoznica, Medici, Mimice, Marusici and Pisak. The Omiš Riviera stretches for twenty kilometers along a coastline of exceptional beauty, with many perfect pebbles, sandy beaches, bays, steep cliffs and a crystal clear sea.

Omis is best known for the traditional Festival of Dalmatian a cappella singing groups. There is no doubt that the Festival of Dalmatian A Cappella Singing Groups is the highlight of Omis’s cultural summer. In addition, the Omis Summer Festival during which various concerts and recitals are held in squares and churches. Omis Cultural Summer has been enriched with concerts and recitals in the churches and in the Cloister of the Franciscan Monastery, as well as performances in the squares, exhibitions and literary and musical events.

Omis is famous for its adrenaline rush activities, a popular term now being active vacations. Here you can enjoy rafting or kayaking on the Cetina river with its great river rapids. Or you can climb the canyon slopes. Now it is popular to paraglide and enjoy the amazing panorama of Omis. Along the Rivera, in all the aforementioned beautiful little towns, you can find exceptional apartment accommodation in private houses.
