Holiday Weight Loss Tips: Lose Weight During the Holidays

Those fattening foods, delicious desserts and calorie-laden cookies call your name during the holiday season. They are hard to ignore when you go to all the Christmas parties and family gatherings. If you want to lose or maintain weight loss, that’s exactly what you need to do!

If I only have a desert, it won’t hurt me much; it will? Well, if you can’t control your urges to cheat, you could be doomed to gain or regain all of your weight. A cookie a day could add several pounds over the course of a month. So how do you maintain or lose weight during this tempting time of year?

never skip meals

This is always a disaster waiting to happen. The consensus in the nutrition field is that you should divide your total calories into 3-5 meals a day. If you starve, your body will go into conservation mode and store what you eat as fat. Second, you will be hungry and want to overeat. Lastly, when you’re tempted at that party, you’d rather feel full and satisfied; or so hungry that he will eat everything there is?

eat before the party

That leads to my next point. Snack something good for you before the party. High-fiber foods are a good choice here. Once you arrive at the event, make good choices in the food line. Fill up on salads and vegetables and only eat limited amounts of anything that seems fattening; or better yet skip those foods.

Don’t stay near the food! Stay busy visiting friends and don’t hang out where you can eat all night. Also drink plenty of low-calorie fluids.

Drink a lot of water

Water should be a no-brainer for you. Water is essential to your weight loss efforts. It has zero calories and will fill your stomach. A full stomach suppresses your appetite and helps you be successful in your fat-burning efforts.

do exercise

Exercise helps keep your metabolism going and keeps the fat burning process going. Walking is fine; Anything more intense is great. Try to find an activity that makes your exercise efforts fun. During cold weather, indoor activities are the best option, unless you live near a ski resort. Volleyball, basketball and racquetball are some suggestions. The treadmill and a nearby book or TV will also work. Don’t let the cold be an excuse not to exercise.
