Laptops: A much better solution for a PC tower?

When it comes to computing these days, many people now opt for some type of laptop, either as a secondary device, or now, increasingly, as their primary computing device.

Yes, many people are now choosing a laptop to use at home instead of the traditional tower personal computer (PC). This is mainly due to the fact that most broadband providers now offer a wireless router as standard, or certainly as a low-cost option. This has meant that people are no longer restricted to having their PC in a dark and cluttered spare room, which is not really an ideal atmosphere for working or playing computer games.

However, with a wireless network you can now locate a PC anywhere in your home. However, many people who have the option would not want to have a large PC in their living room and are therefore buying some type of portable computer such as a laptop.

I refer to this as portable computing as you are no longer restricted to a laptop as you can now buy netbook computers that are small enough to fit in a suit pocket or purse and take with you to work. Laptops tend to have almost full-size keyboards, while netbooks have much smaller keyboards and aren’t ideal for touch typing, and therefore better suited for sending emails than typing a document. They also have reduced functionality versions of popular software such as MS Word and Excel.

However, both laptops and netbooks generally only have Wi-Fi connectivity, or a normal wired network connection setup as well. This means that when you are away from home you can only use them on a Wi-Fi hotspot, which puts limitations on them.

So an alternative to this is a tablet PC, which you can now buy complete with 3G connectivity, which means that by taking out a mobile phone contract, this allows the tablet PC to work over a mobile network from anywhere in the world. with 3G coverage.

Tablet PCs generally do not have a keyboard, but have a touch screen instead, this allows you to double-click icons with your finger to open applications, such as Word and Excel documents, as well as the most common Tablet PC applications. such as movie and music players, as well as very smart web browsing applications.

So when it comes to laptops, you now have a wide range of options.
