Mosaic Patio Furniture – Old Designs Are Popular Again

Every year, outdoor furniture manufacturers find new ways to bring something unique to market. They do this by increasing their collections and / or perhaps simply borrowing ideas from history. When it comes to borrowing from history, one such example is the popular mosaic-tiled cabinet.

Mosaic art dates back 4,000 years and is made by creating images or design with small pieces of colored glass, ceramics, stone, or some other material. Mosaic floors have been found in the ruins of 4th century Roman dwellings, as well as on the wall of ancient chapels.

History repeats itself

Fast forward to 2009, where consumers can now choose from a very diverse selection of tiled outdoor furniture. Look for more options at patio dining tables, bistro table fire pits, and bakery racks. These items are popular because each one is handcrafted and no two pieces are exactly alike. The mosaic pieces also make great focal points due to the unique patterns.

Beautiful designs

For outdoor living, many of the mosaic table tops use glass and travertine tiles. The glass used is generally stained glass that is molded to a smooth finish. Tumbled marble and stones are also used in mosaic tables. The exquisite designs and patterns on the surface vary greatly from geometric style patterns to themes such as: hummingbird, bay leaf, dragonfly, garden, Morocco and many more. Other patio items that include mosaic crafts include children’s chairs, accent tables, umbrella stands, and fire pits.

Because mosaic surfaces are made by hand, they are compared to other, fragile materials. This is not to say that you cannot be comfortable using the surface freely, but during the off-season, take precautions and store your furniture indoors: especially in freezing winter weather.
