Multiculturalism in America

Multiculturalism is nothing more than multiple cultures living in the same society in an organized way. People from different countries, ethnicities, traditions and origins live and work together. This amazing feature is an important part of American society.

Many people from different countries began to immigrate to the US in the 19th century. However, multiculturalism began in the US in the 1950s when the Civil Rights Movement began. This movement played a crucial role in highlighting issues such as inequality, discrimination, and oppression. People began to pressure not only the government, but also social institutions to treat them as equals. Figures such as George Washington Carver, William James and Charles H. Wesley were responsible for promoting multiculturalism in the US They all believed in living in a plural society that treated everyone equally and as equals.

America has always proudly allowed people the freedom to practice their own religion and express their thoughts. Regardless of culture, people have equal opportunities. Today, the United States has a large number of Hispanics and Asians living there, and to have an equal society, people have to be willing to accept multiculturalism as part of their society.

The fastest growing group in the US is Asian Americans and Hispanics. The federal government has strict laws to promote an equal society, and as a result of so many different cultures living in one place, the United States has truly become a melting pot. Minorities, Native Americans, African Americans, and immigrants from all corners of the world live together in harmony, forging a deeper bond.

As an aspect of American society it has had a more profound effect. There is a widespread demand that people from all walks of life should be able to enjoy the same rights. Therefore, different communities and intellectuals came together to demand rights for oppressed groups such as lesbians, gays, oppressed and older people.

In the education sector, discrimination is not allowed and children of all ethnicities and cultures can enter any educational institution. Even in the business and industrial sectors, people have equal participation rights regardless of their origins.

While there are some drawbacks to multiculturalism, it is the pros that one should always focus on. A society should not be discouraged from absorbing people from different backgrounds.
