Pubs in Cambridgeshire

There is such a wide variety of pubs in Cambridgeshire that it’s hard to know where to start.

You’ll find England’s smallest pub, the Nutshell, in the Suffolk town of Bury St Edmunds. I must warn you now, this is not a pub for a pub crawl! It can barely fit 5 people, including the bar staff, but it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the Cambridgeshire/Suffolk area, simply for its historical interest.

Just 20 miles away in Cambridge you will find one of the UK’s biggest pubs, The Regal on Regent Street Cambridge. The old house in the picture has been converted into a monstrous 2 story pub with 5 or 6 separate drinking areas. The only curious thing about this place is that it is going to have all that space in which they did not think to put a dance floor and have it as a pub/nightclub, which sometimes means that it lacks atmosphere. That said, if there’s a large group of you looking for a place to start your night, you can’t go wrong and start here.

Between these two there are over 600 pubs in Cambridgeshire ranging from the super cosmopolitan pubs of Cambridge to the more laid back traditional pubs in and around Ely and St Neots. The other major Cambridgeshire towns such as Huntingdon and Peterborough have the expected mix of young, hip and trendy bars in the city center and some excellent gastro pubs on the outskirts.
