Sony KDL-52EX700 – HD LCD TV Review

The KDL-52EX700 is a good example of what Sony can do with an HD LCD TV. Retailing for just under £1,650, this set is at the forefront of home entertainment. With a 52-inch screen and 1080p resolution, this HD LCD TV will make your favorite movies or TV shows look better than ever, and since it’s equipped with a brightness control, it’s almost impossible to compromise the quality of the picture. picture when wrongly calibrating the TV. In HD, the set really stands out, delivering sharp images with clean edges, while its strong black level and LED backlight enhance any image with 3D effects. Dark shadow detail, which can often suffer on an HD LCD TV compared to a plasma TV, is excellent on the Bravia. Whether the image on the screen contains dark clothing or low-light scenes, Sony has really gone to great lengths to maintain image detail and quality.

Sony has also packed this LCD HDTV with a host of future-proof features and options. MotionFlow technology combats blur caused by fast motion, a perennial problem with LCDs, by using a high-speed 240Hz refresh rate, which actually makes the image clearer. The TV also comes with built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, allowing access to YouTube videos, Flickr photos, and a host of video-on-demand services from Amazon, Netflix, and Sony Pictures. Devices also come with Bravia Internet Widgets, a real-time update service that keeps you up to date with news headlines, weather forecasts, sports scores and more. To complete the package, the TV is equipped with USB ports for the connection of remote photo, video or music devices.

The outer casing is somewhat traditional looking, but still has Sony’s trademark sex appeal. The frame and the screen have an obvious degree of separation between them, which is a bit distorting. However, this is offset by the glossy black sides and top, along with the dark gray stripe that runs along the bottom of the screen. The accompanying support is adequate, if not excellent. It swivels perfectly from side to side, but it doesn’t have the tilt feature found in some of Sony’s other packages.

When all is said and done, the KDL-52EX700 may not be the best LCD HD TV Sony has on the market, but it offers loads of features and is good value for money. A valuable addition to the home entertainment system.
